In this 1-hour taster workshop you will create your very own delicate and bespoke jewellery piece using stunning Australian white and coloured porcelains. Workshop is suitable for clay novices and experienced potters alike.

Visit Ratbag Studios on beautiful Tamborine Mountain during Australian Ceramics annual Open Studios Weekend: Larissa is teaming up with Jo Mackenzie Ceramics and both potters will be at the same stunning studio location for the Pottery Road: Tamborine Mountain and Valley Open Studios weekend.

During this taster workshop, you will learn to use coloured porcelain to form your own nerikomi (pattern) block which will then be the basis for crafting jewellery pieces: your choice of a pendant, earrings or some beads. You will be introduced to the different ways these can then be used with jewellery findings to create your own pieces to wear to your Christmas dinner or New Years celebration.

You will be guided through this workshop by, not one, but two teachers: Larissa, an experienced exhibiting artist and teacher of 20 years; and Jo, a pottery teacher and ceramic jewellery maker. .

All clay, tools, glazing and firing are included. Jewellery findings not included.

After the workshop, we will fire your work. Your finished work can be collected at selected times 2-3 weeks after the workshop, or you may like to have them carefully wrapped and posted to you for the additional charge of $12.
Bring along an apron, please wear comfortable clothes & closed-in shoes.

Care Instructions

All of my ceramic pieces sold are useable and made to store liquids. The body of each piece is made using one of Australia’s finest porcelains, fired to 1280°C and fully vitrified.  Due to the nature of combining various stoneware, raw minerals and porcelain clays, your work may have some very superficial (thin and only surface deep) spilts on the outside. This is rare, but does not change the function of the work. If your cup/vessel leaks, of course please contact me, however, all cups are checked and tested before sale.

If your ceramic piece has not been glazed, rather has a polished finish, I have applied Liquid Quartz ceramic sealer, which is a food safe, permeating sealer designed for use on unglazed ceramic ware. Click here for more information about this product.  Due to the thin walls of your porcelain piece, please be mindful that hot liquids will be hot to touch if in a porcelain cup. Careful hand washing of your ceramic ware is advised.
