A collection of work I created that captures pockets of landscape within porcelain vessels. Layers of locally found clay + porcelain + minerals = pattern. Each piece explores textural contrasts; the merging of smooth, polished porcelain with raw stoneware textures. The vessels’ walls balance between being strong yet delicate with 2mm thin walls, delivering maximum translucency.

Nerikomi clay combinations using native clays I have discovered here on Tamborine Mountain in the last three years. Melted bursts of trachyte, an extrusive igneous rock, also appear within the clay landscapes. The wild clays are distinct to my local landscape and have been uncovered with permission from private land owners. Most collections take 4-6 weeks to create. Extensive testing of materials, processes and experimentation happens before I begin to create the nerikomi pattern blocks. The patterns are then inlayed into the walls of my ceramic vessels. These designs are structural and not just a surface matter.

Please note *Can not be used in the microwave due to lustre application. Please hand wash.
The work you are purchasing is of an experimental nature. I like to use found materials and push my clays to extremes. There may be thin superficial cracks or bursts of minerals in the pattern section of the piece you purchase.  I ensure these vessels are safe to use by firing to vitrification as well as using a food safe ceramic sealer on the unglazed surfaces. All pots are tested for leaks prior to sale.

Care Instructions

All of my ceramic pieces sold are useable and made to store liquids. The body of each piece is made using one of Australia’s finest porcelains, fired to 1280°C and fully vitrified.  Due to the nature of combining various stoneware, raw minerals and porcelain clays, your work may have some very superficial (thin and only surface deep) spilts on the outside. This is rare, but does not change the function of the work. If your cup/vessel leaks, of course please contact me, however, all cups are checked and tested before sale.

If your ceramic piece has not been glazed, rather has a polished finish, I have applied Liquid Quartz ceramic sealer, which is a food safe, permeating sealer designed for use on unglazed ceramic ware. Click here for more information about this product.  Due to the thin walls of your porcelain piece, please be mindful that hot liquids will be hot to touch if in a porcelain cup. Careful hand washing of your ceramic ware is advised.
